Return your kit
After your chicks hatch (18 days for quail and 21 days for chickens) and move to the brooder box, have some fun watching them as they sleep, eat, drink, and play. You can even handle the chicks for short intervals.
At the end of the 4 weeks return the kit. You can either keep the chicks, give them away to someone that is prepared to care for them, or simply return them with your kit.
If you decide to keep the chicks, we will always take back any unwanted roosters.
What are you hatching?
We do our best to provide you with options on what you want to hatch but we are not always able to able to accommodate all requests as there are multiple factors that affect fertile egg availability. Below is a sample of what we typically have available. If you are looking for a specific breed of chicken or quail please reach out to us so we can confirm availability.
Quail
12 eggs included in kit*
Hatch in 18 days
More consistent availability
Quail chicks grow very fast pretty much doubling in size every day for the fist week and reaching full maturity as early as 6 weeks
Quail roosters sound like a songbird when they crow so can be kept in town without disturbing your neighbors
We raise jumbo brown Coturnix quail (aka Japanese Quail)
Require less space than chickens
Unless you are planning on keeping the chicks and specifically want chickens, we recommend quail for your hatching project.
Chickens
7 eggs included in kit*
Hatch in 21 days
We have a variety of chicken breeds available at different times. If you have a specific breed request please reach out to us first so we can confirm availability.
Barnyard Mix - large breed egg layers that lay a mix of white and brown eggs
Bantam - small breed egg layers
Olive Eggers - large breed that lays a blue green egg
* The old saying “don’t count your chickens before they hatch” is true. There are many different factors that can affect a hatch rate and not all of your eggs will hatch. Typical hatch rates range between 60% to 85%.
